2 or Less Hours Recreational Screen Time
Not sure if you’re getting too much recreational screen time? Talk with your doctor about why theCanadian Pediatric Society is recommending less than 2 hours of recreational screen time a day to achieve greater health and wellness benefits. We can’t get away from homework and jobs that use screens but we can limit how we use phones, TVs and tablets for our spare time.
It can be tough to get kids to behave the way we would like sometimes. Using a screen can seem harmless enough, but is it getting to be too much? Need some help with managing recreational screen time? Talk with your doctor about tips and tricks on managing screen time and behaviors.
Provide alternatives to TVs in your waiting rooms! Have books & toys on hand to occupy children while they wait. You can also provide colouring pages with healthy messaging. If you have room think about setting up a kid size table and chairs to make sitting more inviting.

Are you worried you aren’t reaching the recommended levels of physical activity? Seeking different and unique ways to increase your child’s activity levels? Talk to your doctor about a referral to a Registered Kinesiologist or Health Promoter who can provide you with more in depth physical activity and healthy lifestyle counseling.
Provide the physical activity recommendations and access to resources to help improve patients physical fitness. Consider using green prescriptions to promote physical activity participation! This will help to encourage patients to discover the outdoor trails in the South Georgian Bay community. During an appointment with your doctor ask for resources and discuss how to decrease your child’s and your own consumption of sugary beverages. Water is easily accessible but you may be finding you are bored because of the limited taste. Consider creating your own flavoured water recipes with individual or a combination of fruits and vegetables!
Consider purchasing a water cooler to provide both patients and staff with a healthy non-sugary beverage. Supply an interactive sugar display and posters displaying key messages about sugary drinks and alternative healthy drink choices!

Are you not feeling like yourself? Reach out for help and discuss with your parents, doctor, or both regarding the possibility of a referral to a mental health counsellor or social worker.
As a parent or guardian, you know your child best and it is important that you listen and watch for changes in their behaviour, feelings and thoughts. Encourage them to talk about their feelings and if they just aren’t themselves considering asking your doctor for a referral to a mental health counsellor or social worker.
During well-child visits discuss the developmental and behavioural growth of each child. Ask the child about their thoughts and feelings and discuss concerns regarding mental health with them individually or with their parent.
